Business on rise in Waterford, White Lake
[Oakland Press, February 15, 2011]
The new terminal at Oakland County International Airport west of Airport Road in Waterford is set to open by the end of August, said airport officials.
The new 15,000-square-foot “green” building, estimated to cost $5.5 million, replaces the 50-year-old terminal building.
White Lake growth
A new restaurant called the Root Restaurant & Bar is scheduled to open at 340 Town Center Boulevard in the Village Lakes Shopping Center — near the JCPenney — in White Lake in early April.
Owned by Ed Mamou and James Rigato, the restaurant will feature a menu “designed around regional, seasonal cuisine showcasing the many resources Michigan and neighboring areas have to offer,” according to the eatery’s website. The space is being designed to be “comfortable yet refined,” owners reported.
Staff is meeting with farmers, growers and butchers to research and taste area products.
Also under construction is The Sanctuary at White Lake, billed as a “Senior Wellness Campus.” This 77,000-square-foot facility south of the Village Lakes Shopping Center is expected to open at the start of 2012.
The building, operated by Livonia-based Trinity Senior Living Communities, will provide 48 short-term beds and 44 long-term beds for seniors.
Situated at 10770 Elizabeth Lake Road, the facility will feature gardens, a pool for aqua therapy, cafe, gardens, fitness center and eight separate neighborhoods within the facility, said Kelly Gasior, vice president of planning and marketing. “We are excited about coming to the north Oakland County market,” she said.
