Trinity Senior Living Communities is an affiliate of Trinity Health, the fourth largest Catholic health system in the United States. Its mission can be traced back to the Sisters of Mercy and the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross.

Founded in 1831 in Dublin, Ireland, the Sisters of Mercy established foundations to serve the poor, sick and underprivileged throughout Ireland and England. In 1841, the Sisters took their mission to America where they founded hospitals, schools and orphanages, and established homes for women and girls at risk. In 1976, the Sisters created a health system, eventually called Mercy Health Services, to link and better support their hospitals.

Holy Cross Health System has its roots in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, founded in 1841 in Le Mans, France. During the American Civil War, Holy Cross Sisters helped staff military hospitals, caring for the wounded of both the North and the South. Over the next 100 years, the Sisters opened hospitals and other health care facilities throughout the country, responding to the needs of the times. The Congregation formed Holy Cross Health System in 1979 to bring unity as well as economic solidarity to these health care organizations.

In 2000, Mercy Health Services and the Holy Cross Health System consolidated to form Trinity Health. As an affiliate member of Trinity Health, Trinity Senior Living Communities carries on two rich traditions of serving people in need.

Trinity is a fully integrated health system with 44 hospitals, 379 outpatient clinics, 33 long-term care living centers, and numerous seniors housing sites, home health care programs and hospice programs in California, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan and Ohio. Trinity, based in Novi, Mich., employs 46,000 associates. Total annual revenue is approximately $6.1 billion.
